Alpe d'Huez (alt.1860 m) is an Alpine winter sports station on the old mountain pastures of the village of Huez in Isère, 59 km from Grenoble. It is part of the Grandes Rousses massif, over the Oisans. Alpe d'Huez station is accessible from Grenoble via the RD 1091, which runs along the Valley of the Romanche passing through the communes of Livet-Gavet and le Bourg-d'Oisans as well as Haut-Oisans via the col de Sarenne. Alpe d'Huez also has an altiport built on the occasion of the 10th Grenoble Winter Olympics 1968. He was baptized Henri Giraud April 15, 2000, in memory of the mountain pilot. It hosts helicopters of civil security, FAS and the Dauphiné flying club. A gourmet restaurant is located on the edge of the platform. Alpe d'Huez is a climb in the French Alps. Although it is not the most difficult (la Plagne, Courchevel to mention ski resorts visited by the Tour de France, offer toughest climbs) regular crossings of the Tour de France as well as the character often decisive in this stage, has helped to build an international reputation. Thus, Alpe d'Huez is very popular with cyclists who every day, on average of 300, make the ascent.

As many large resorts, L'Alpe d'Huez in summer offers multiple activities, particularly around the Palais des Sports. In general, the summer season begins late June and ends late August. During this period, the Grandes-Rousses DMC and the Pic Blanc cable car are in service for access to the three sections (2,100 m, 2 700 m and 3 330 m). These are the starting point of hiking, or mountain bike downhill.
